I spend more and more time at my desk these days, doing everything from preparing our taxes to working on this blog. Because of this, my workspace is constantly changing. Holding the clutter at bay is challenging, so I prefer to keep items on my desk to a minimum (although it doesn’t always work).
My trusty planner is always near-by as is a pen that I’ve grown fond of because it writes smoothly. I am a pervasive list maker and doodler, so there is always a notepad on my desk as well – for when the planner isn’t big enough. I’m teaching myself hand-lettering techniques (but, not quite succeeding as of yet), so there is lined paper, pencils and a few brush markers.
How-to books and magazines just ripe with inspiration are cluttering a small table right next to my desk – so for now, I tell myself that doesn’t count as part of ‘my desk’.
I own a vintage swingline stapler that’s weighted just right and a multitude of easers for the mistakes I make daily. My desk is not far off my kitchen, so a cup a joe (iced in the summer) or hot tea in the winter is usually at the ready as well.
As far as the rest of my office, my bookshelves are also at the ready – just in case I have a ‘reading emergency’.
